Ankle Pain

Knee pain can make daily life almost intolerable. You use your knees when you walk and when you sit. A bad knee can make you feel like you can hardly get out of bed in the morning, let alone walk up a flight of stairs, take a walk or even drive your car.

What Is Causing My Knee Pain?
Knee pain can be caused by so many things, and knowing the cause is important if you’re going to treat it. Here are some of the more common causes for knee pain:

Injury
This could be a new injury or an old one. Untreated injuries can cause frequent, chronic knee pain for years down the road. Cartilage injuries are common in people who play sports, such as soccer or volleyball, and people who participate in activities like skiing and running.

Another cause is inflammation of the tendon. This happens with overuse, and can be a result of sports-related or work-related activities.

Quick, twisting injuries are fairly common and can result in a torn meniscus. Accidental and sports injuries can also cause damage to the ligaments. A torn or stretched ligament is also known as a sprain. You will know right away if this happens as it is very painful.

Arthritis
This is a major cause of knee pain, with more than one type. If injury has been ruled out, arthritis may be the culprit.

The most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis. This comes as a result of joints not moving properly for extended amounts of time, general wear and tear, and the gradual breakdown of cartilage. Arthritis also affects the surrounding muscles, ligaments and joints.

This is often found in those who have been active in sports or have had repeated injuries, or who have jobs that cause repetitive motion.

There are other conditions that can cause knee pain, although injury, overuse and arthritis seem to be the major culprits.

Can Chiropractic Help My Knee Pain?
If you’ve been suffering from chronic knee pain, if you’ve been relying on painkillers to deal with that pain, or if your physician has been unable to help you with your knee pain, a chiropractor might be able to help.

In addition to knee injury and osteoarthritis, there may be other factors at play, such as problems with your hips, ankles and feet, that are throwing your body off balance and thus causing knee pain. This is called referred pain. A chiropractor can help address other issues that may be contributing to your pain.

A combination of targeted adjustment, homeopathic remedies, exercise and other strategies can help you finally recover from chronic knee pain. If you’ve been experiencing knee pain, contact New Life Chiropractic in Amarillo to find out if chiropractic care can improve or resolve your issues.
