Extremity Pain

At New Life Chiropractic, we offer more than spinal adjustments. While spinal health is critical to our overall well being, we cannot neglect the rest of the bones in our body. When these bones become misaligned, we become more susceptible to arthritis, twisted ankles and knees, rotator cuff and hip problems, and carpal tunnel.

Traditional care like pain killers, anti-inflammatory creams, injections and surgery, may work temporarily, but often do not provide a long-term solution. Chiropractic care and extremity adjustments are a natural method to regaining motion and alleviating joint pain.

What Are Extremity Adjustments?
Extremity adjustments are not the same as spinal adjustments. By releasing muscles and increasing mobility in these joints, extremity adjustments can help increase your range of motion and reduce pain and discomfort in your extremities. Movement rebalancing can help preserve and protect your quality of life for years to come.

Extremity adjustments primarily target the knees, shoulders, elbows, feet and ankles, and hips. What many people suffering from lower back pain may not realize is that their pain actually stems from a deeper problem. Old injuries, such as twisted knees and rolled ankles, plantar fasciitis, hip misalignment and even surgeries can weaken the body, and cause other areas of the body to overcompensate. This results in discomfort, loss of range of motion and can spur further injury down the line.

Knees: People who have suffered knee injuries, such as sprains, twists and strains, or have undergone knee surgery often experience pain many years after the fact. Their knee is permanently weakened. Why? After a knee injury, you must rely upon other parts of your body for support and other areas must overcompensate. Surgery, on the other hand, misaligns the knee and can cause trauma.

Extremity adjustments realign and retrain the knee, as well as strengthen it.
Feet/Ankles: The ankle and foot are two of the most vulnerable parts of our bodies. Plantar fasciitis, sprains, strains and rolled ankles that never healed properly, are some of the most common conditions extremity adjustments can resolve. Athletes and dancers are susceptible to foot and ankle injuries, but anyone can hurt their feet and ankles. Our feet our are baseline, our platform, so to speak; they hold us up, balance our body and carry our weight every day. That’s a lot of pressure! While rolling your ankle or twisting it may seem like a minor injury, they can actually lead to greater injuries in the body down the road, from hip and knee pain to lower back pain.

Chiropractic adjustments of the lower extremities can restore motion, relieve pain and release locked up muscles and nerves. Adjustments can also improve your overall gait and stabilize your spine.

Hips: The hips are another area of the body that demand attention. The hips are the foundation of the body. Hip problems can stem from malfunctioning joints above or below the pelvis, additional stress resulting from other injuries and pregnancy. Repetitive injuries, sports-based injuries, traumatic accidents, hip replacement surgeries, and trips and falls can cause ongoing hip complications.

Extremity adjustments can realign the hips to ensure optimal balance and strength.
Arms/Shoulders/Wrists: Carpal tunnel, arthritis, tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis), golfers elbow (medial epicondylitis) and frozen shoulders can be extremely painful. Numbness and tingling, sharp pains that shoot up and down the arm and weakness are just a few of the symptoms. However, these symptoms do not always equate to one of the aforementioned conditions.

Chiropractic adjustments of the upper extremities can realign the bones and muscles of your wrists, shoulders and arms, which will improve range of motion and eliminate pain.
