Elbow Pain

Elbow pain, especially in the dominant arm, is a common complaint in many active individuals. The elbow is a commonly used joint, and can be overused more often than not. This overuse, typically from sports and recreational activities, can lead to severe elbow pain. There are many different types of conditions that produce severe elbow pain. Some of these include:

- Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis)
- Golfer’s Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis)
- Little League Elbow
- Posterior Impingement Syndrome
- Elbow Bursitis

Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) is a form of tendonitis. This condition produces a pain or soreness on the outside part of the elbow. Tennis elbow produces severe elbow pain, usually from overuse of the joint in repetitive movements (like swinging a tennis racquet) and extension of the wrist and fingers.

Golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylitis) produces severe elbow pain on the inside of the elbow. It is like tennis elbow and is normally caused by repetitive movements (like the constant flexion of the wrists and fingers), but the location of the pain is localized towards the inside of the elbow.

Little league elbow is caused by overuse of the elbow joint as well, although in this case is a condition in younger, puberty age children (usually 9-16 years of age). Repeated throwing of a baseball, and over-throwing or over-extending the joint are to blame for this type of severe elbow pain on the back side.

Posterior impingement syndrome, or elbow impingement, is a condition caused by compression of the soft tissue and the damage from that compression. The soft tissue in the elbow joint is the cartilage, and this syndrome causes severe elbow pain located mainly on the back side of the elbow.

Elbow Bursitis is when the elbow joint is inflamed irritated or injured and is usually caused by injury, infection, extreme pressure or a medical condition. This inflammation causes severe elbow pain.

As you can see, there are many different types of conditions that cause severe elbow pain. While sports are to blame for many of these injuries and sore joints, but when the pain does not cease, it is important to get the proper relief you need to treat severe elbow pain.

Chiropractic Care for Severe Elbow Pain
Before considering surgery or medications for pain relief, you may want to consider a more natural solution, such as chiropractic care. Chiropractic care incorporates spinal and extremity adjustments with nutritional supplementation and massage. A chiropractic approach is a holistic approach, taking into account the entire state of the body and not the just affected area.

Chiropractic care has shown to help relieve tension in the elbow joint, helping to increase movement and activate nerves from the neck down. Massage and trigger point therapy are essential tools that chiropractors use to treat severe elbow pain. Chiropractic care is a wellness based, whole body centered and natural solution for relieving even the worst of elbow pains.
