Numbness & Tingling in Legs

Numbness & Tingling in Your Legs
We all experience occasional aches and pains in our legs from time to time. If you have numbness and tingling in your legs, it may be your body giving you definite signals that something isn’t right. Numbness and tingling in the legs can quickly put a stop to the activities that you enjoy.

Don’t try to mask your symptoms with over-the-counter medications. Instead, make a visit to Dr. Ian Kelly, your Amarillo Chiropractor.

Symptoms and cause
Numbness and tingling in your legs (or anywhere for that matter) is more than likely caused by unusual pressure on the nerves that correspond to the area showing the symptoms. If the vertebrae in your spine are not aligned as they should be, they can put pressure on various nerves. When this happens, the nerve becomes inflamed and/or irritated, resulting in swelling in the surrounding tissue and causing numbness and tingling.

Subluxation
The term subluxation is used to describe the condition where the bones in your spine are out of their correct position.

This subluxation can be caused by several things. Even something like standing or sitting in the same position for a prolonged period of time can lead to symptoms of numbness and tingling. Overuse or engaging in sports or other types of exercise can also be a cause for numbness and tingling of the legs. The longer the subluxation goes untreated, the worse the problem can get. The most important thing is to have any subluxation treated as soon as the symptoms appear to receive the best results.

Sciatica is one common cause of numbness and tingling in the legs. Discomfort is felt going down the back of the leg due to pressure being placed on the sciatic nerve. Pain and aching usually accompany this condition and it can become quite debilitating.

Why go to a chiropractor?

Most cases of numbness and tingling in the legs can be treated conservatively by a Doctor of Chiropractic. Specific spinal adjustments help to realign the spine and help your body successfully relay messages from the spinal cord to the brain and back again. During chiropractic treatments, you will have a series of safe, painless adjustments that will correct the subluxation and alleviate the numbness and tingling in your legs.
